2015 Thrust Innovations Daytona Freeride

The 2015 Thrust Innovations Daytona Freeride was once again what it has always been: a welcome break from the cold grip of winter that dominates so much of the USA in mid-January. As always, there’s a great vibe on the beach and in the pool area along with great riding happening out in the water by some of the best professional and recreational freeriders in the world. The Daytona Freeride has always delivered as promised with good times. It is also a great opportunity to try out new rides or improvements made to skis since last season. For Rick Roy, it was an opportunity to dust off an old camera mount used back in the day in the making of many cover shots for print mags. How would GoPro footage look with this? One way to find out. Special thanks to Rick Roy, Mark Gomez, Brandon Lawlor, Abraham Ho and the entire Rickter Crew for their sharing of the images.

The big change for this year was the inclusion of formal freestyle and racing competition on Saturday. It was a concept that had been knocked around for years by event organizer Nicholas Foederer but had never been acted upon due to fears of encroaching on the “good vibes/no stress” attitude of the event. Chris Fischetti has long been an ambassador of the sport, wishing to improve over the status quo and willing to work to make it happen. Chris saw a great opportunity in the Daytona Freeride to do some “experimentation” with the Aquamoto format and Nic gave it his blessing. Judging by the vibe of those participating and watching from the shore, it was a welcome addition.

Check out all of the action in the video and make plans to be there next year! For more info, contact Nicholas Foederer at www.daytonafreeride.com
